The Optimist Club of Claremore participates in the Optimist International Essay Contest. The theme for the 2010 competition is: "The Internet: Today's Evolution or Tomorrow's Menace?"

The Claremore Optimist Club received entries and judged the local students' essays, based on the theme, and determine the top winners. The winning essay will be entered in the Oklahoma District Competition, and be eligible for scholarships of up to $1,250. The District winner will be entered in the International Competition where first prize is a scholarship of $6,000.00.

The Contest is open to Students under age 19 as of December 31, 2009. The essay must be between 400 and 500 words. (Title, footnotes and bibliography are not included in the final word count.) Scoring is based on Organization, Style, Grammar, Neatness and Adherence to Rules. A copy of the student's birth certificate is required.
