The Optimist Club of Claremore participates in the Optimist International Essay Contest. The theme for the 2012 competition is: "How my Positive Outlook Benefits My Community."
The Claremore Optimist Club receives entries and judges the local students' essays, based on the theme, and determine the top winners. The winning essay will be entered in the Oklahoma District Competition, and be eligible for scholarships of up to $2,500. The District winner will be entered in the International Competition where first prize is a scholarship of $6,000.00.
The Contest is open to Students under age 18 as of December 31, 2011. The essay must be between 700 and 800 words. (Title, footnotes and bibliography are not included in the final word count.) Scoring is based on Organization, Style, Grammar, Neatness and Adherence to Rules. A copy of the student's birth certificate is required.
